Barbara A. VonVillas

First elected to the Town Council in 2008, Barbara A. VonVillas served on the Middletown School Committee for six years, including four years as Chair from 1992 – 1996. She has a PhD. in English from University of Rhode Island, and is currently an adjunct professor at Roger Williams University. After teaching in Middletown Public Schools for 18 years, she was an administrator in Connecticut and Massachusetts and returned to Rhode Island in 1999 as Superintendent of Schools for the Burrillville School Department, serving in that capacity until 2006. She has published several articles about education in professional journals and was the editor of The Leaflet, the journal of the New England Association of Teachers of English from 1989-1993. In addition to teaching at RWU, she is an educational consultant with Consulting Partners, Charlestown, MA.
