Residents warned about unsolicited insurance offers

Recently, town residents received letters from a private company called HomeServe USA offering an insurance policy for emergency repairs to their water lines. The company is selling an insurance policy to cover repairs to a homeowner's waterline from the water service connection on the street to the home's foundation. These repairs are typically the responsibility of the homeowner.
Both the Newport and Portsmouth Water Department have confirmed that HomeServe USA is a private company and it "is not affiliated or endorsed with either water department".
The Middletown Police Department would like to remind residents to fully research any business that sends unsolicited offers of goods or services through the mail.
