FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) has produced updated revised preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the Town of Middletown. These maps may change the flood zone designation for your property and may have ramifications, particularly regarding flood insurance. It is important for residents who own property located in flood zones to carefully review the flood insurance ramifications for their property and to fully understand the advantages of purchasing flood insurance prior to the adoption of the final maps (expected date April, 2010), due to certain “grandfathering” provisions.
To view those structures that may be affected by the newly proposed flood zones, check out the following map: FEMA Floodzones
You can view the Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) for the Town of Middletown here: Preliminary FIRM Map Index
To view the current, effective FIRM maps, go to FEMA’s Map Service Center.
In addition the Middletown Planning Department has pamphlets and publications that explain the process. The Planning Department can be reached by telephone at 401-849-4027 if you have any questions or wish to make an appointment.
