The Middletown Police Department is a full-service police agency, which provides professional law enforcement services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department is divided into two major divisions, an Operations Division and the Administrative and Investigations Division. The Operations Division is commanded by a Captain and provides patrol coverage through the use of two platoons which are divided into four separate squads. Each of the squads are supervised by a Lieutenant and a Sergeant. All patrol squads work 12-hours shifts and provide police coverage for three main patrol districts.
The Middletown Police Department is CALEA Accredited and also accredited through the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission. The department first receive accreditation through CALEA in 2013 when it achieved Advanced Accreditation. Being a national and state accredited agency, the department complies with state of the art standards in four basic areas. These areas include policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
The Administrative and Investigations Division is commanded by a Captain with a Lieutenant who serves as the executive officer. The Division's primary responsibility includes the:

The total authorized complement of personnel for the Middletown Police Department includes 39 sworn officers, supported by four full time and two part time civilians.
