Kitesurfing and windsurfing are fun, challenging sports allowed off Sachuest Beach. Before you head out and enjoy the waters off our family friendly beach, make sure to follow these rules:
- Due to the presence of piping plover nests on Second Beach, all kitesurfing is prohibited until August 2021.
- Kitesurfing, windsurfing and other sailboarding sports are prohibited in the designated swim area marked by buoys placed in Sachuest Bay off Sachuest Beach from May 15 - Oct. 1.
- Kitesurfing, windsurfing and other sailboarding sports are allowed outside the designed swim area between May 15 - Oct. 1 after 6 p.m. only and anytime of day the rest of the year.
- Kitesurfing, windsurfing and other sailboarding sports must always be at least 100 feet away from swimmers, waders, boats and other watercraft.
- The launching of kite boards, windsurfers and other sailboard devices must be done 50 feet from the designated swim area May 15 - Oct. 1.
- It is illegal for anyone to launch or ride a kitesurfer, windsurfer or other sailboard in a reckless manner.
- Kite boards, windsurfers and other sailboard devices and all related equipment must be properly secured and stored no less than 25 feet from the water's edge when not in use.
- No kitesurfing, windsurfing or sailboard devices may ever be stored in the beach dunes.
- The Town reserves the right to temporarily halt kitesurfing, windsurfing and other sailboarding sports at any time in the interest of public health, safety and welfare.
- If piping plovers are nesting (typically in the late spring and early summer), the Town reserves the right to prohibit kitesurfing, windsurfing and sailboarding.
